One winter night, sixty floors up, everyone in their finest.

In four acts

How we got here

I

The gallery

We met arguing — politely — over the same photograph at a Chelsea opening. Neither of us bought it. Neither of us left alone.

II

The blackout

Third date, city-wide power cut. We walked forty blocks by phone light and decided, somewhere around Herald Square, that this was it.

III

The question

On the roof of June's building, in January, both of us freezing and neither willing to go inside first. Elias asked. The city hummed.

IV

The night

Now we're taking the whole thing sixty floors up — with you, in black tie, in November.

Getting there

The 7 train to 34th St–Hudson Yards leaves you at the door. Taxis drop at the West entrance on 34th.

Cloakroom

Coats, bags and anything else at the cloakroom on the 60th floor — staffed until the last guest leaves.

The morning after

A recovery brunch for out-of-town guests at 11:00 on Sunday, in the hotel brasserie. Come as you are.

Where to stay

The Meridian Hotel

A wedding rate is held under 'Calloway–Stone' until October 20 — you can take an elevator home.

Where to stay

The Foundry, Hudson Yards

Two blocks away, kinder on the budget, and the lobby bar is where the afterparty will inevitably end up.

What to wear

Black tie

Tuxedos, evening gowns, velvet, silk — the works. The rooftop is heated but it is November in New York: bring a proper coat for the journey and we'll take care of the rest at the cloakroom.

White is spoken for; everything dark and dramatic is encouraged.

Mothers of the couple

No registry. Your company, well-dressed, is the whole point. If you insist on more, there will be a small envelope box by the guest book — it funds two weeks in Kyoto next spring.

Questions, answered

How strict is black tie?
Strict-ish. A dark suit with a bow tie passes; jeans do not. If in doubt, dress up — you'll be photographed against the skyline.
Can I bring a plus-one?
Seats are named on your invitation. If yours says two, bring the one you love most.
Are children invited?
This one's an adults-only evening — a rare night off, on us.
Will it be cold on the roof?
Dinner is under heat lamps and the pavilion is glassed and warm. Between the two, you'll forget it's November.
Photography?
During the ceremony, eyes only — our photographer has it covered. Afterwards, shoot everything and tag it.
