A blessing by the lake for
Maya
A blessing in a chapel by the lake, and a garden lunch among the wildflowers.

Our wildflower
The story of Maya, so far
Born on the 3rd of November, 2026 — small, loud and instantly in charge
She arrived early
Three weeks ahead of schedule, on the first snowy morning of the year. Punctuality has not been repeated since.
The eyebrow
Maya developed a single sceptical eyebrow and has been reviewing our parenting with it ever since.
First picnic
She grabbed a fistful of daisies and refused to let go for two hours. The theme of this whole day is, frankly, her idea.
Her blessing
Six months and twenty-seven days old, our wildflower gets her name by the lake.
The blessing
What happens in the chapel
The welcome
Father Andrej meets Maya and her godparents at the chapel door, where she is greeted by name.
The blessing of water
The font is filled and blessed — lake-country tradition says the windows stay open so the mountains can watch.
The baptism
Water three times, one surprised face, and Maya officially becomes Maya.
The candle & the light
Her godfather lights her baptism candle from the paschal flame — hers to keep and relight every year on this day.

Godfather
Nina and Matej will hold Maya at the font, light her candle, and — by long negotiation — split the birthday-present duties evenly for the next eighteen years.
What to wear
Garden pretty — florals, pastels, comfy shoes
We'll be on grass, gravel and one short chestnut-lined walk. Mint, peach, butter and sky are Maya's colours, if you'd like to match her.
Instead of gifts, bring a wish — the wishes tree is waiting for it. If your hands insist on carrying something, a picture book or pressed flowers for her memory box will be loved to pieces.
Good to know
Questions, answered
- Is the chapel hard to find?
- Follow the signs to Selo pri Bledu and look up — it's the small white chapel on the green hill. Parking is in the meadow below, then a five-minute walk.
- Can children come?
- It's a garden with a lake view and a wishes tree — children are the point. Bring them, and a change of clothes for optimism.
- What's a wishes tree?
- A little apple tree where every guest hangs a hand-written wish for Maya. We'll read them to her every birthday. Cards and pens provided; tears yours to bring.
- What about gifts?
- Nothing is needed. If you'd love to bring something, a pressed-flower card or a picture book beats anything wrapped.
- What if it rains?
- The chapel keeps us dry, and the villa's veranda covers the lunch. The lake is prettier in the mist anyway.
